What can you expect from a facelift? If you see that your skin is aging, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to stop it. If you have enough motivation and do not mind investing in your look, a cosmetic surgery can help reverse the signs of aging. Most people do not mind paying a high price for attaining a youthful face. What can a facelift not do for you? With age, your skin will pass through several changes. The dermis or the lower layer of your skin becomes thinner with time. Your skin tissue is made up of elastin and collagen. While elastin gives your skin elasticity, collagen helps keep your skin taut. In the end, these two proteins break down and your skin begins to sag. When your skin loses its elasticity, the underlying tissue becomes susceptible to gravity. Rather than springing back when pulled, your skin will sag. Additionally, the muscle and tissue composition under the skin begins to change leading to wrinkle formation. You must understand that a facelift cannot erase the signs of aging and problems like sagging of the eyelids and eyebrows and skin discoloration cannot be addressed with it. What is the facelift procedure? The shape and contours of each face is unique. This is why what you can achieve with a facelift is unique to each face. Before you undergo the procedure, your doctor will evaluate your skin and understand the consistency of your skin to determine the best kind of facelift for you. Your facelift surgery can be performed in the surgeon’s office or a hospital. Your doctor can perform the facelift under a combination of sedative and anesthesia. You will be awake during your procedure but you won’t feel anything. Some doctors also opt for a general anesthesia so that you sleep through the procedure. If you have opted for the standard facelift procedure, your doctor will make an incision which begins at the temple passing through the hairline and going around the curves of your earlobes.
